Upward Bound College Road Trip 2009!

Here I am in my hotel room, completely pooped! (excuse my language) but really, I am exhausted! Yet, I decided I needed a new post, desperately, and what better update than the trip I am on, currently? So here goes...

It all started on Sunday morning, waking up at 6:00 to bake homemade blueberry muffins for our many house guests from the 4th of July, while also allowing time to shower, get ready for church and pack for my 5 day trip that I was leaving for at noon. I was well on my way to accomplishing everything, I had baked, tested, showered and was beginning to pack when a not-so-good feeling came upon me. To make a long story short, by around 8/8:30 I was laying in bed sick, and I mean SICK...not pretty so I will spare the details! It turned out I had food poisoning! Just what I wanted hours before I was supposed to be on my way to San Antonio for work. I honestly, wasn't sure I was going to be able to make the trip, but the thought of missing out on the trip I had been working so hard to plan for weeks made me even more sick! Luckily, I am blessed to have a wonderful nurse for a step sister-in-law who helped me feel WORLDS better by 2:00 and I was able to join 3 of my co-workers and make my way to San Antonio!

Day one in San Antonio was long, but good! We went on two campus tours, The Witte Museum (after our bus breaking down), the mall, and finally to The Tower of Americas! My team is awesome and I am really enjoying getting to know these kids!

Day two, was not as busy, but much more fun! This morning we went to UTSA for a tour, I was very impressed with the school, and I think the kids were too! Then we made our way to SEA WORLD! It was my first trip and I LOVED it...from watching trainers interact with Shamu, to riding roller-coasters (which they had to push me on) and enjoying them, to learning and seeing the neatest animals God created! From feeding seals, watching sharks swim, to being inches from the dolphins, I was in awe!

My prayer for this week, is that these kids will be encouraged that they CAN go to college and that they WILL be successful, but more than that... that they see God live through me, Cole, Drew, and Heather! I feel so blessed to work with these people and to be here...it is nothing less then amazing! I feel God changing me, I know I am growing and I love feeling Him work through me! I want these kids to see my joy, hope, and faith through the interactions I have with them. I want them to KNOW there is something different, without me using words. I stand humbled in the presence of God, I know His hands are in this camp, and I would like to ask for prayers as well. Pray that Cole, Drew, Heather and I will LIVE God, when we can't speak God. That we will have good attitudes and show these kids the love of God like they have never experienced before!

God is great!
