What would it look like?

Bear with me, this might be kinda long! ;)

I have found that I have much more meaningful devotionals when I find a song and dive into its meaning...

One of my friends recently recommend me to Starfield, a christian band! I absolutely love them, their style is great, but their lyrics are truly a blessing!

Here are two of their songs that I have spent my quiet time studying:

"Cry In My Heart"
"There's a cry in my heart
For your glory to fall
For your presence to fill up my senses
There's a yearning again
A thirst for discipline
A hunger for things that are deeper
Could you take me beyond?
Could you carry me through?
If I open my heart?
Could I go there with you?
(For I've been here before, but I know there's still more Oh, Lord, I need to know you)
For what do I have, if I don't have you Jesus?
What in this life could mean anymore?
You are my rock
You are my glory
You are the lifter of my head
Lifter of this head"
"Son of God"
Son of God
Shaper of the stars
You alone
The dweller of my heart
Mighty King
How beautiful You are, how beautiful
Son of God
The Father's gift to us
You alone
Were broken on the alter of love
Precious Lamb
Our freedom's in Your blood, It's in your blood
Jesus, Oh Holy One
I sing to You
Forgiven
Savior, I'm overcome
With Your great love for me
Son of God
Strength beyond compare
You alone
The darkness cannot bear
Lord of love
Your kindness draws me near, it draws me
Son of God
Prophecy of old
You alone
Redeemer of my soul
Come again
And lead your people home, come lead us home
You are worthy
You are worthy
You are worthy of all my praise
You are beautiful
You are beautiful
I will lift up my hands and sing"
(In order to get the full experience of these songs I recommend going to YouTube and listening to them because they are very good!)
These songs really tugged at my heart because they both talk about how purely wonderful God is and how all we should want to do is praise him all day long...yet I often forget about him with my busy schedule and I don't really sit down to soak him in until 1:00 in the morning as I am getting in my bed! How can I forget the one who I owe my entire life to, everyday is precious, everyone is a gift! Not to sound cheesy, but it's true. I have no idea why God has blessed me with what he has...I don't deserve any of it! I have such an amazing family! I don't know where I would be without my wonderful sisters! I have such a deep love and respect for each one of them, and I know life would be 100 times harder without their support! They have always watched out for me even when I didn't recognize it, and I can't thank them enough!
Anyhoo, getting back on track, I found Psalms 13: "But I trust in your unfailing love, my heart rejoices in your salvation, I will sing to the Lord, for he has been good to me."
It got me thinking...
What would it like if we trusted in His unfailing love?
If we rejoiced in our salvation?
If we lifted our hands and sang praises?
If we truly thirsted for discipline?
If we had a yearning again?
If we had a thirst for things that are deeper?
What would it look like if we had a "cry in our hearts" for His glory to fall and His presence to fill up our senses?
As Christians we aren't called to fit in or blend in, but to stand out and live radically! I can't say, though, that is my goal when I wake up... to stick out, but that's what I am called to do. I understand that doesn't mean go inside Wal Mart singing for all the world to hear, but love without expecting anything in return, open doors for people when its inconvenient, take buggies back to their spot, pick up trash off the ground...we are called to serve because we have a awesome God who has sent a awesome redeemer and shouldn't we want the world to know that too? I am not usually this "cheesy" but something in me wanted to share this with the few people who read my blog...my hope is that I can take my own words to heart and truly start living, not for myself, but for God.
